About ShipRx — The Team Behind the Savings | ShipRx

The People Behind the Savings

ShipRx was built by logistics professionals who spent decades watching businesses overpay for parcel shipping — and decided to do something about it. Here is who we are and why we built this.

How We Started

It started with a conversation between two people who thought businesses deserved better.

James Matthews spent more than 20 years in the parcel and supply chain industry — long enough to understand exactly how carrier pricing works, where contracts leave money on the table, and how consistently businesses overpay without realizing it. He had the knowledge to help. What he needed was the push to do something with it. That push came from Mike Hooghkirk, who saw what James knew and believed it was too valuable to stay inside a corporate role. Mike didn't just encourage James — he committed to building it with him.

Mike had worked with Todd Wallin before and knew what Todd brought — not just financial expertise but the perspective of someone who had run his own business, navigated the printing and packaging industry, and understood what it actually feels like to manage costs as an owner rather than an advisor. They brought Todd in. Over time, as ShipRx's platform grew in ambition, Josue Tello joined to lead the technology side — bringing the kind of engineering and product leadership that turns a service into a system.

ShipRx was built on a straightforward belief: the complexity of parcel logistics shouldn't work against the businesses that depend on it. Carriers understand their own contracts better than most of their clients do. That imbalance costs businesses real money every year. ShipRx exists to close that gap.

The complexity of parcel logistics shouldn't work against the businesses that depend on it.

How We Work

A few principles we don't compromise on.

These aren't values we wrote for a website. They're the decisions we made when we built the company — about how we charge, how we show up, and what we're willing to say to a client.

We only earn when you save.

ShipRx's fee structure is tied entirely to the savings we generate. If we don't find savings, you don't pay. This isn't a marketing position — it's the structure we chose when we built the company because we believe it's the only model that keeps our incentives genuinely aligned with yours.

You get the owners — not a ticket queue.

Every ShipRx client has a direct line to the people who built this company. When something comes up — a carrier dispute, a contract question, a renewal deadline — you have someone to call who knows your account and has the authority to act. That's not a feature we added. It's how we decided to operate from day one.

Honest analysis over comfortable answers.

If your contract is in good shape, we'll tell you. If the opportunity is smaller than you hoped, we'll tell you that too. A performance-based model only works if the analysis is honest — and we'd rather lose an engagement than overstate what's possible and underdeliver.

We don’t simplify parcel logistics. We navigate it.

Carrier contracts are complex. Surcharge structures change constantly. Billing errors require documentation and deadlines. We don't believe in hiding that complexity behind a simple pitch — we believe in being the team that understands it well enough that you don't have to. That's what "partner" means to us.

Logistics is a relationship business.

We have three offices and we are happy to meet in person. We know our clients by name, by shipping profile, and by the challenges their business is facing. We built this company in part because small and mid-size businesses deserve the same caliber of logistics expertise that Fortune 500 companies have access to. That belief shapes every engagement we take on.

The Leadership Team

The people you'll work with directly.

ShipRx operates with a core leadership team supported by a wider group of logistics specialists, auditors, and analysts. What sets us apart is that every client has a direct line to the people leading their engagement — not just a support team working in the background.

James Matthews

EVP of Operations

James has spent more than 30 years in the parcel and supply chain industry — long enough to have negotiated contracts from both sides of the table and to understand exactly how carrier pricing is structured at every level. He brings that depth to every ShipRx engagement, leading the operational side of the business with a focus on analysis, negotiation strategy, and the kind of industry knowledge that takes decades to build. James is the reason ShipRx exists — he had the expertise, and Mike convinced him it was time to use it differently.

Mike Hooghkirk

EVP of Sales

Mike has more than 20 years of experience in sales and business development, with a track record of building national-level client relationships across complex service categories. He co-founded ShipRx because he believed — and still believes — that businesses of all sizes deserve access to the kind of logistics expertise that has historically been reserved for the largest shippers. Mike leads the client relationship side of the business and is the person most likely to pick up the phone when you call.

Todd Wallin

EVP of Finance

Todd brings something most logistics consultants don't have — the perspective of someone who has sat on the other side of the table as a business owner. With more than 20 years of experience running businesses in the printing, packaging, and promotional items industries, Todd understands what it actually costs to run a lean operation and what it feels like when shipping expenses erode margin. He came to ShipRx through Mike, and his background as an international sourcing specialist and experienced negotiator makes him one of the most practically useful people in the room when a contract conversation gets complicated.

Josue Tello

VP of Product & Engineering

Josue is the reason ShipRx's platform can do at scale what most audit companies do manually. With more than 15 years of experience across cloud architecture and SaaS product development, he brings the rare combination of deep technical ability and product strategy — the skill set that turns a process into a system. He has led cross-functional teams through complex platform builds and product launches, and at ShipRx he is responsible for making sure the technology behind every client engagement is fast, accurate, and continuously improving.
